  • Lifting threads, also known as barbed or cog threads, have tiny barbs or cogs along their length, which provide a lifting and anchoring effect when inserted into the skin.
  • Lifting threads are designed to lift and reposition sagging facial tissues, such as the cheeks, jowls, and brows. The barbs or cogs on the threads grasp onto the underlying tissue, creating immediate lifting and tightening effects.

Before the Treatment:

  • Take Arnika supplements starting 5 days prior to the procedure.
  • Avoid over the counter pain relivers/NSAIDS (aspirin/ibuprofen/aleve), fish oil, omega 3’s, St. John’s Wort, ginkgo biloba, and Vit E for 1 week prior to procedure

  • Start supplementing with collagen peptide powder 1 week prior (Nutrafol or Vital proteins) and continue to supplement for 6 weeks after.
  • If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your physician about medications that may minimize a recurrence.
  • Sanitize your phone prior to your appointment with a lysol wipe. Avoid putting it to your face and try to talk on speaker phone as much as you can the day of.

After the Treatment:

  • The numbness should wear off between 2-3 hours. Avoid opening your mouth widely and be gentle with your face until the numbness is gone.
  • Once the lidocaine wears off, you will feel soreness, tightness, and tenderness over the threads. You may take Tylenol and ibuprofen for discomfort.
  • Once you are no longer numb, you may apply ice to reduce swelling. Do not ice while your face is still numb, as you could injure your skin. Do not apply ice over the entry points.
  • If you touch over the threaded area, you will be sore until they fully incorporate and soften. Any direct pressure onto your face directly over the threads may be sore for about two weeks.
  • Try not to touch your entry points for 72 hours. You do not need to apply antibiotic ointment. Do not pick at the tiny scab that will form at the entry point. You may put isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on a Q-tip and gently rub the site if it itches. Do not apply makeup over the entry point until it is completely healed over (10-14 days). Stay out of swimming pools, hot tubs, bathtubs, lakes, or oceans until your entry sites are healed over (10-14 days).
  • You may gently wash your face after 24 hours but avoid washing directly over entry points for 72 hours. You may shower after 24hrs and let the shampoo and soap wash over the entry points. Avoid getting creams, lotions, hair products, or makeup onto the entry points for 72 hours.
  • Its suggested that you sleep on your back the first 3-5 days to prevent any shifting of the threads. Sleeping on a slight incline (a couple of pillows) for the first couple of nights can help reduce swelling. Sleeping with a travel pillow around your neck could prevent you from sleeping on the side of your face.
  • You may notice some dimpling, asymmetry, or irregularities at first. This is normal and will often even out in 2 weeks time.
  • It is common to feel some tugging or experience “zingers” as you move the treated area. This should settle after about 2 weeks. If the threads are anchored below your mouth, you will most likely feel tugging with chewing, speaking, and laughing. You will want to avoid widely opening your mouth or over animating (such as a big smile/laugh or large yawn) for 4 weeks while the threads are incorporating. You should also avoid eating bagels, tall sandwiches, steak, and other items that require lots of chewing or widely opening your mouth for 4 weeks. If you are not careful of these things you may feel a snap or pop where a thread was placed. This snap or pop means that the threads have released some tissue which can diminish your result but is in no way dangerous.
  • No strenuous/high intensity exercising for 4 weeks. Low impact/intensity workouts are allowed after 1 week.
  • Avoid Direct Heat, RF, Lasers, IPL/BBL, massages, facials and microneedling treatments for 8 weeks.
  • Infection is very rare but when it occurs, it usually starts about five days after a procedure. It can also occur later from another source, such as strep throat or a dental infection. If you develop new swelling, worsened tenderness, or redness after the initial swelling starts to subside, please get in touch with us immediately so that we can help.
  • Avoid any unnecessary dental procedures for two weeks. Of course, if you develop a dental infection, you should treat that immediately. If you develop a dental infection and are having a problem getting in with your dentist, contact your primary doctor or us for antibiotics. It’s important to treat bacterial infections promptly.
